Hodads invented by Byron and Virginia Hardin in 1969 on the beach in Ocean Beach, San Diego, where they sold their “Amazing Burgers.” Four years later, the first incarnation of Hodad’s opened in a small shack on the sand in Ocean Beach. In 1991, after several moves, Hodad’s settled in its current location on Newport Avenue. The restaurant estimates that it sell 1200 to 1500 hamburger in a day. Mike’s sudden death in 2015, his son Shane and daughter Lexi became co-owners of the restaurant chain.
